As Queensland’s largest single destination homemaker lifestyle and outlet shopping centre, Domain Central in Townsville is investing in a long-term sustainable solution for its significant outdoor lighting needs.
The project involves replacing dozens of light fittings in the centre’s car parks and internal roadways with the latest in LED lighting technology.
Domain Central’s outdoor areas were previously illuminated by 400W metal halide globes, once commonplace in commercial lighting, but now outdated compared to newer LED options.
Peter Lollo from local lighting specialists JEM Distributors, who supplied the lighting for the project, said it has been a great one to be a part of.
“I feel privileged to have the opportunity to be part of this significant investment by Domain Central in the installation of the latest leading edge LED lighting technology,” Mr Lollo said.
“Installation of the new LED lighting will allow Domain Central to use far less energy and create much less heat to generate the same amount of light as metal halide lamps, with the additional benefits of lasting much longer and being virtually maintenance-free,” Mr Lollo said.
Domain Central Centre Manager, Sandy Corbett, said the installation of LED lighting for the Centre is a key part of their commitment to sustainability.
“The installation of LED lighting at Domain Central is an important component of our efforts to deliver on our ongoing environmental and sustainability goals,” Ms Corbett said.
“This significant investment in new outdoor LED lighting will allow for a substantial reduction in energy consumption for the Centre.
“We’ve also been proud to engage with local contractors and suppliers here in Townsville to assist us in delivering this project.”
