Robina Town Centre continued its partnership with Ocean Protect this year to help keep local waterways and beaches free from rubbish, preventing over 18 tonnes of waste from entering waterways at its source.
Robina Town Centre continues to take an active approach to stop the flow of pollution at its source, partnering with Ocean Protect to install and maintain stormwater treatment assets, Ocean Guards, to reduce the amount of waste that makes its way into local waterways and oceans.
The Ocean Guards were designed and developed by Ocean Protect to trap solid waste, including rubbish and sediment, before it reaches our waterways. This year, 18 tonnes of waste were captured in the Ocean Guards at the Centre.
Robina Town Centre has installed Ocean Guards in three of its car parks, with works expected to commence to extend the program into the remaining car parks by the end of the 2021 financial year (slightly delayed by COVID-19).
Robina Town Centre’s stormwater system drains into the nearby Mudgeeraba Creek, which flows on to lakes, canals, and the ocean.
